While conducting a field inspection of the Haridwar-Najibabad National Highway on Saturday, the Haridwar district magistrate Mayur Dixit issued clear instructions to the officials concerned that all roads running in the district should be made pothole-free by October 15. He inspected the road conditions, potholes, encroachments, cleanliness and ongoing flyover constructions with the Ardh Kumbh mela approaching.
He directed National Highway Authority of India officials to immediately repair and patch up the potholes found during the inspection. He directed them to regularly monitor the rain-damaged roads and prioritise accident prevention. He also asked the officers to be stern against encroachments along the National Highway, ordering immediate removal of illegal street vendors and other temporary encroachments and preventing re-encroachment.
The Transport department was instructed to identify accident- prone spots and ensure adequate sign boards, warning indicators, speed breakers and other road safety measures there.
