Haridwar police on Monday arrested a man named Waseem Azam from Saharanpur who allegedly duped people by claiming to be a deputy commissioner of police (DCP) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The matter came to light after a complaint was filed against him at the Bahadrabad police station in Haridwar in December last year, according to which Azam had allegedly got engaged to a woman while posing as a CBI officer.
The Haridwar senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that Azam was reportedly engaged to a woman in Bahadrabad but two days before the wedding on December 8, 2022 the brother of the woman registered a complaint against him stating that his sister is suspicious of Azam. According to the complainant, Azam got engaged to his sister while posing as a DCP in CBI and told them that he was posted in Patiala at that tim. His sister became suspicious of the accused which led him to register the complaint. The investigation revealed that the accused had forged photographs and an identity card of a DCP through photoshop which he showed to people to scam them, said the SSP. He said that the accused was finally nabbed from Saharanpur on Monday. The police also recovered eight fake IDs as CBI officer and two photoshopped photographs. Singh said that the accused would be presented before the court soon.
