Haridwar police arrest Sunil Rathi’s henchman for attempted extortion of trader

Haridwar police on Sunday arrested notorious gangster Sunil Rathi’s henchman Sushil Gujjar (37) for allegedly threatening a local trader Ravi Kant Malik for extortion. Rathi, who is a prisoner in the Haridwar district jail, and his henchmen had allegedly made threatening WhatsApp calls and sent messages to Malik from jail demanding Rs 50 lakh last month. The police filed a case at the SIIDCUL police station against Rathi and his henchmen last month on February 13.

The senior superintendent of police of Haridwar Ajai Singh said that the accused Sunil Rathi threatened the trader Ravi Kant Malik that his land in the Navodaya Nagar area of SIIDCUL would be snatched if he failed to pay. His henchmen on February 11 had also allegedly demolished the room built on the plot and stole electrical items too. Malik first was threatened by Rathi’s men- Neeraj Malik, Pradeep Rathi, Rohtash, Vipin Rathi and Shushil Gurjar to vacate his possession of the land and then later, he got an extortion call for Rs 50 lakh allegedly from Rathi. 

Singh said that Gurjar had also allegedly threatened to kill the complainant Malik and his family. The police registered a case against Rathi and his five accomplices and started the investigation. The SSP constituted separate teams to investigate the case and after gathering concrete evidence, Haridwar police nabbed Gujjar in the SIIDCUL area on Sunday. He said that it is an ongoing investigation and that other accused will be nabbed soon.
