Dharchula MLA, Harish Dhami has staked his claim for the Congress party’s ticket from the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024. Interacting with the media persons at the State secretariat on Monday, Dhami said that being a three time MLA, he is a natural choice in the party for the Lok Sabha ticket. In response to a question about the candidature of former chief minister Harish Rawat from the Haridwar parliamentary constituency, Dhami said that Rawat is a very senior leader with a national stature and he can contest from any seat in the State. The Congress MLA said that he wants to raise the voice of the people residing in mountainous areas of the State in the parliament. He said that the voice of the people of mountainous areas is neglected. Dhami exuded confidence that he would win the Nainital- Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary seat comfortably if the party gave him a ticket.
Incidentally Dhami who represents the Dharchula assembly segment of Pithoragarh district in the State assembly is said to be a close confidant of former CM Harish Rawat. The Nainital- Udham Singh Nagar seat is at present represented by union minister of State for defence and tourism Ajay Bhatt. In the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, Bhatt secured a huge victory from here by defeating Harish Rawat of Congress party. Rawat now has focussed on Haridwar seat which he represented in the year 2009.
