In latest news from Dehradun, with the ruling BJP having named its candidates for all the five Lok Sabha constituencies of the State, the opposition Congress is now brainstorming to zero in on the candidates for the two constituencies- Haridwar and Nainital-after the party brass came up with the list for three constituencies. The party sources said that the party veteran Harish Rawat and the State party chief Karan Mahara are now camping in Delhi. Mahara met the party top brass, including Sonia Gandhi and K C Venugopal and shared feedbacks with them for crafting the appropriate poll strategy to combat the saffron camp now riding on the crest of Modi groundswell.
While Rawat is said to be pitching for the candidature of his son Virendra Rawat for the Haridwar seat Mahara himself has eyes fixed on it. For Nainital seat, there is a number of aspirants like the MLA Bhuwan Chandra Kapri, Prakash Joshi, Mahendra Pal and Ranjit Rawat. Party insiders said that Rawat is likely to stay put in Delhi till the two candidates are named.
