In latest news from Dehradun, when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in the city in connection with the two-day Global Investors Summit, the Congress veteran and the former chief minister Harish Rawat embarked on silent fasting stir in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Gandhi Park on farmers-related issues. It is learnt from the State Congress leaders that his fast is meant to draw the government’s attention to the demand of support price announcement for sugarcanes at a time when the industry tycoons, including Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, were arriving in the city for the investors summit. They further informed that the former CM’s silent fast continued for one hour. Along with a battery of the State Congress leaders, some farmers were also present at the fasting site. According to the State party leaders, it is the duty of the Congress to raise the farmers’ issue when the ruling BJP remains indifferent to the worsening plight of the farmers.
