Harish Rawat walks barefoot to express solidarity with unemployed

Former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat took out a march barefoot from the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at Dispensary Road to that of the statue of India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru at Gandhi Park in support of the unemployed youths of the State on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the rate of unemployment is rising steadily in the country and it has reached 8.5 per cent now. In Uttarakhand the unemployment rate is highest in the country and the unemployed are being cheated in the name of providing jobs. He said that the posts are being taken back in the absence of requisition and the unemployed are having very hard times. The former CM said that he is walking barefoot in support of the unemployed. He said that though his march was solo many organisations and members of youth congress participated in it. Rawat said that his programme should not be considered political and for this walk he had not informed the State party president and other leaders of the party. He said that being a former CM he considers himself as the guardian of the unemployed. Congress leaders Prithvi Pal Chauhan, Jaswinder Singh Gogi, Ashok Verma, Garima Dasauni, Om Prakash Sati, Sushil Rathi and others attended the walk.
