In latest news from Doon, amidst mounting suspense and speculations over who would be the Congress candidate for the Haridwar constituency, political watchers whose eyes are trained on the electoral developments in the opposition party said that the party’s top brass has already decided to zero in on young Virendra Rawat, son of the party veteran Harish Rawat. Though the old warhorse has launched public connect programme in Haridwar the party insiders said that this time the party is all set to bet on the green horn.
However, long- time political observers said that the best candidate to take on the formidable BJP candidate Trivendra Singh Rawat would be the seasoned and battle hardened Harish Rawat. Triverdra stands head and shoulders above Harish Rawat’s son and if Virendra is fielded it would be a cakewalk for the saffron party, given groundswell the ruling party is enjoying across the State, said an observer. Another observer said that if Virendra is fielded it would still be a battle between two titans- Harish and Trivendra.
