Hearing on a public interest litigation on alleged corruption in the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU), the Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Sports secretary to appear personally in the court via video conferencing on August 17. The division bench of chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice Rakesh Thapliyal issued this direction while hearing the PIL filed by Dehradun resident Vikesh Negi.

In the PIL, Negi has claimed that after the elections in the CAU after 2019, lakhs of rupees were charged from players for selection to play in the Ranji Trophy and other venues. Irregularities worth lakhs of rupees have been carried out in the food and water bills also. The petitioner has stated that the bill for bananas amounted to Rs 32 lakh while the water bill amounted to Rs 22 lakh. The players were being mentally harassed due to which they are forced to play while representing other States. The petitioner has further contended that cases of irregularities and sexual exploitation have been lodged against the office bearers of the board in various places. He has stated that the office bearers involved in the scams had exerted pressure on the treasurer to make fake bills and removed him from the post after he refused to do as they said. The petitioner has sought an investigation monitored by three retired High Court judges. The association office bearers found guilty of corruption should face strict action and be prohibited from contesting elections. Negi has also sought dissolution of the board and the appointment of an administrator in its place.
