HC directs State to check documents & submit report within 3 months
Hearing on a public interest litigation filed against appointment of about 3,500 teachers on the basis of forged documents to primary and senior secondary schools, the Uttarakhand high court has directed the State government to check documents of all the teachers and submit a report to the high court within three months. On Monday, the state government sought a period of six months to check the documents of all the teachers but the court directed the government to do the needful within three months. The PIL was taken up for hearing by the division bench of acting chief justice Ravikumar Malimath and justice Alok Kumar Verma.
According to the case details, the Student Welfare Society of Haldwani had filed the PIL stating that about 3,500 teachers had been appointed to primary and senior secondary schools on the basis of forged documents. The petitioner has stated that though names of some persons were revealed in an investigation by a special investigation team, they were given a clean chit allegedly with the connivance of departmental officials and are still employed. The petitioner has sought an SIT investigation in the matter.
It will be recalled that in the past, the state government had submitted an affidavit in the court stating that an SIT is investigating the case. Till now, 84 teachers were found to have secured appointments on the basis of forged documents. Departmental action is being taken against such teachers, it was stated.
