HC directs Vikasnagar SHO to probe & report on alleged illegal collection in Haat Bazaar

The Uttarakhand High Court heard a public interest litigation filed against alleged illegal collection from traders at the Haat Bazaar in Vikasnagar Tehsil of Dehradun district. Hearing the matter, the division bench of chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice Rakesh Thapliyal directed the petitioner that a copy of the complaint CD submitted in the court should be presented to the Vikasnagar police station house officer. The police SHO will investigate into it, take necessary action and present a report in the court by June 28 when the matter will be taken up for hearing next
According to the case details, Vikasnagar resident Mohammed Islam had filed the PIL stating that a Haat Bazaar is held in Vikasnagar. He has alleged that money is collected illegally from the traders in the Haat Bazaar and that this money is not deposited in the account of the government. The traders are not provided any receipt for the money they pay. According to the rules, the government collects charges according to the size of the stall set in the Haat Bazaar. However, in Vikasnagar, the government is not collecting the money. Some persons are illegally collecting the money from traders, the petitioner stated. He added that he has complained about this to the sub divisional magistrate but no action was taken by the authorities in the matter. The petitioner has sought that the illegal collection of money from the traders in the Haat Bazaar should be stopped.–
