The Uttarakhand High Court has ordered a stay on the arrest of the persons named as accused in the complaint lodged in the case of Kashipur resident farmer Sukhwant Singh in Haldwani. The single bench of justice Ashish Naithani issued this direction on Friday while issuing the State government and the complainant, Parmindar Singh- the suicidee’s brother- to submit their objections within three weeks.

The court also directed the petitions to provide all possible cooperation in the investigation in the case. The matter will be taken up for hearing next on April 15.

On Friday, the State government had informed the court no person had been arrested in the case so far, adding that the director general of police was also monitoring the case considering its seriousness. The probe has been handed over to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) but the investigation had not commenced yet.

Singh had allegedly shot himself in a hotel room in Haldwani during the early hours of January 11. Before committing suicide, he had shared a video on social media accusing many of property fraud and duping him of more than Rs three crore. He had also accused many officials in the Udham Singh Nagar police of corruption.
