HC seeks report from State on monkey & dog bite cases

Hearing on a public interest litigation regarding the issues caused by stray dogs and monkeys in Nainital city, the Uttarakhand high court has made the municipality a party in the case and directed it to submit a report on the number of stray dogs, number of sterilised dogs and the number of dog and monkey bite cases. The HC division bench of chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice RC Khulbe has also directed the State government that all the municipal bodies and Gram Panchayats should submit reports with this data in the court by September 21.

Nainital resident Girish Chandra Kholiya ahd filed a public interest litigation stating that the menace of stray dogs is increasing in Nainital city. The petitioner has stated that a number of people have been bitten by dogs. The sterilisation of dogs had been carried out some time ago but their population has continued to increase. The petitioner has sought measures to check the issues resulting from the rising population of monkeys and stray dogs.
