HC seeks State’s reply in petition regarding UCC live-in provisions

Hearing petitions challenging some provisions regarding live-in relationships in the Uniform Civil Code implemented in Uttarakhand, the Uttarakhand High Court has directed the State government to submit its reply.

The matter will be taken up for hearing next on February 21. According to the case details, Samarth Aniruddh had filed a petition stating that the live-in registration form under the UCC requires one to fill in details about past incidents.

This includes information about whether one is divorced, widowed and other detailed information, which is improper, the petitioner has contended. After hearing the petition, the division bench of chief justice G Narendar and justice Ashish Naithani has directed the State government to file its response.
