PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The district tuberculosis office will organise health camps in all 100 wards of the Dehradun as scheduled under the National Tuberculosis Eradication Programme. The health camp programme commenced on Tuesday in Deepnagar (ward number 82) and Banjarawala (ward number 84), inaugurated by Dehradun chief medical officer Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma.

According to the officials, following the directions of Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat and the Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, camps will be organised in each ward. This makes Dehradun the first district in Uttarakhand to initiate this programme, marking a significant step toward making the state TB-free and supporting the Prime Minister’s TB-Free India Campaign.

The officials said that health camps will be held in every ward of the Dehradun district, starting from Tuesday and concluding on June 13. The last health camp will take place in Ward Number 69 (Sewla Kala) and Ward Number 79 (Bharuwala Grant). A total of 50 camps will be organised, with two wards included in each camp.

Currently, about 4,266 TB patients are receiving treatment in Dehradun district. Under the Prime Minister’s TB-Free India Campaign, approximately 1,565 of these patients have consented to receive nutritious food from Ni-Kshay Mitra, allowing Dehradun to achieve a 100 percent target in this aspect.

The health camps set up in each ward will screen high-risk groups, including individuals over 60 years of age, family members of pulmonary TB patients, diabetic patients, malnourished individuals, smokers and alcohol consumers. The screenings will include X-rays, sputum tests (NAAT Testing), blood sugar tests and blood pressure tests.
