Health department issues SOP for contagious diseases

The Health department has issued standard operating procedures for contagious diseases. Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar said that strict instructions have been issued to government personnel regarding water borne diseases. He said that cases of water borne diseases like cholera, viral hepatitis, typhoid and other ailments rise during the summer. Stating that such ailments can be transmitted from an infected body to another, he said that the Health department has issued all its employees to coordinate with the local bodies and ensure the necessary level of sanitation and public awareness.
Kumar said that in case of clustering of cases, the district level rapid response team should ensure swift treatment, control and prevention measures. All governmental and private treatment units must mandatorily upload information about cases of water borne diseases on the government portal. The Health secretary directed officials to ensure that there is adequate quantity of ORS, antibiotics and other medications in all medical units. There should be proper arrangements for checking the quality of water and adequate quantity of bleaching powder, chlorine tablets and other necessary items. He further said that public awareness campaigns should be undertaken to help prevent such diseases.
