Health dept appoints 197 CHOs for health & wellness centres

The State health department has appointed 197 new community health officers (CHO). These officers will be deployed in the health and wellness centres in all the districts of the State.
On the requisition of the Health department, the HNB Uttarakhand Medical education university conducted the second phase of the counseling of the candidates and released the final selection list on Friday. The department will deploy 16 CHOs in Almora, 17 in Bageshwar, 16 in Chamoli, five in Champawat, 40 in Dehradun, 22 in Haridwar, 14 in Nainital, 31 in Pauri and 12 in Pithoragarh. Similarly two CHOs will be deployed in Rudraprayag, one in Tehri, 15 in Udham Singh Nagar and six in Uttarkashi.
The department had appointed 1,515 CHOs in the health and wellness centres last year.
Apart from health checkups of the local people, the CHOs would create awareness towards health. They will also visit the villages and set up ‘ Health Chaupals’ to create awareness in the people.
The health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the appointment of 197 CHOs will help in further strengthening the State health services.
