Health Dept gears to ensure safe Char Dham Yatra for pilgrims

The Health department of Uttarakhand has started gearing up for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra. The Yatra will start with the opening of the portals of Gangotri, Yamunotri and Kedarnath on May 10. 

Informing about the preparations of his department, the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar said that a parameter of health is kept on the website of the Tourism department in which the pilgrims should give details of their health. 

Kumar said that the focus of the department is to make the health services on Kedarnath  and Badrinath route better and for this the process of purchasing high quality equipment for the hospitals in both these Dhams has started.

He said that the department has prepared the SoP for the Yatra in 11 languages for the convenience of the pilgrims. 

The secretary further said that 50 screening points on the Yatra route have been set up where the health screening of the pilgrims will be done. Here the test of high blood pressure, sugar and other parameters of the pilgrims will be done. 

He said that the health department has made an appeal to the doctors of other states for serving the pilgrims. 

 Kumar said that in the trek to Yamunotri and Kedarnath the pilgrims should take a rest of five to ten minutes after every one or two hour. They should keep a raincoat, umbrella, pulse oximeter and thermometer with them in the Yatra. The pilgrims suffering from heart ailments, high BP, sugar and asthma should keep their medicine and the number of their doctor with them.  

Kumar said that the department will keep a special focus on the Kedarnath Yatra route, Last year 10 medical relief posts and two PHC centres were set up here. 

He added that health ATMs will also be set up on the Yatra routes.
