The Health department organised an awareness rally on Saturday as part of the breast cancer awareness campaign under the National Health Mission. The rally began at Gandhi Park and concluded at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC). ASHA workers from the urban area participated in the event.
Participants raised awareness on the symptoms and prevention of breast cancer in women. Experts highlighted several key symptoms, including the formation of a lump in or around the breast, changes in size and shape, severe pain and infection. Additionally, a painless lump present for an extended period, as well as unusual discharge or bleeding from the breast, were also identified as signs of breast cancer.
The ASHA workers also informed the public about preventive measures like exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, practicing Yoga and performing self-exams for lumps or unusual discharge. It was further stressed that medical examination at Ayushman Arogya Mandir or any hospital should be sought if symptoms arise.
