The State Health department has started providing transportation assistance to individuals with disabilities to help them reach the weekly camp designated for them. Informing this, the chief medical officer (CMO), Dr Sanjay Jainsaid on Wednesday that he had asked the district leprosy officer (DLO) to make transportation arrangements for the inmates of the leprosy ashrams to reach the weekly camp organised every Wednesday for the specially abled people. Besides, he had asked the DLO to complete the certificate procedures for them.
Acting on these directives, the departmental vehicles were sent to Shanti Leprosy Ashram, Navjeevan Leprosy Ashram and Rotary Leprosy Ashram in Dehradun to bring the inmates to the camp and then return them to the ashrams theys reside in after the certificate procedures were completed.
Among those who received disability certificates on this day are Surekha Devi, Lal Bahadur, Bela Devi, Ram Singh, Sulochana Devi and Rango Devi.
Speaking on the initiative, the CMO said that this is meant to guarantee that the leprosy-affected individuals receive the maximum benefits from the government schemes designed for their welfare. “So, we are organising this weekly camp every Wednesday and bringing them to these camps with free transportation to help them reap the benefits from the schemes dished out for them,” he added.
