The Health department has recently submitted a formal proposal to the Dehradun district magistrate for implementing fogging and source reduction activities themselves in response to the increasing cases of dengue in the Dehradun district. Informing about this, the district surveillance officer Dr CS Rawat saud that the Health department has been directed by DM Savin Bansal to be more vigilant in the coming days to prevent dengue cases. The department has devised a new initiative following this. In the past, the Health department had asked the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to carry out fogging and dengue source reduction activities. However, with the recent direction of the DM, the Health department has decided to take on these activities themselves in the near future. As part of this plan, it has recently submitted a proposal to the DM seeking approval to conduct fogging and source reduction activities independently, he added.
He further added that additionally, the proposal includes a request for a budget allocation for these new initiatives. He stated that once the proposal is approved by the DM, they will formally request the MCD to provide fogging machines. He emphasised that this process may involve some delays, but they will endeavour to launch this new initiative in October. He highlighted that this initiative will be sustained in the forthcoming years as well.
Notably, since July 1, ASHA workers have been diligently conducting a dengue awareness campaign aimed at educating individuals on preventive measures and conducting household inspections for larvae. This initiative involves the participation of 550 ASHA workers, each visiting approximately 40 to 50 houses daily. Further, 100 volunteers in Dehradun and 40 in Rishikesh have been allocated tasks to enhance dengue prevention awareness in their designated wards. The department till now has conducted a total of 1,220,816 house surveys, resulting in 23,560 positive cases, and inspected 5,800,440 containers, with 66,264 containers testing positive.
