Health dept to conduct fogging for dengue prevention

Following the direction of the district magistrate Savin Bansal, the health department has decided to undertake the fogging and source reduction activities to address the rising cases of dengue in Dehradun district. Informing this on Tuesday, the district surveillance officer Dr C S Rawat said that the count of dengue cases in Dehradun has been relatively low this year so far with only two to three active cases at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) and most of the admitted dengue cases are coming from other districts rather than Dehradun.

Dr Rawat further said that approximately 30 to 40 ELISA tests have been conducted on a daily basis at the district hospital, all of which have tested negative for dengue so far. He, however added that a change in the environment could lead to a surge in dengue cases in near future. “To prevent this, the health department has planned a new initiative in accordance with the DM’s instructions,” he said.

He said that the health department had earlier asked the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun for fogging and dengue source reduction activities. Now with the direction of the DM, the health department has decided to conduct these activities themselves in the upcoming days. They will be submitting a proposal to the DM and upon approval, will request the Municipal Corporation to provide fogging machines. Additionally, the department plans to hire workers specifically for the fogging activity, he said.

“We have sufficient quantities of ELISA kits  at the hospital and our work goes on uninterrupted,” he said and added that  they are now  gathering positive dengue report numbers from the private hospitals in Dehradun.

“We are vigilant and we urge the people to stay vigilant too in the coming days when things may worsen. We must see to it that   there is stagnant water in our surroundings,” he stated.
