The Health department of Uttarakhand has taken up a public awareness campaign to make the state free from the anaemia. The health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the campaign would be undertaken in both the rural and urban areas of the state. He said that the officers of the department have been asked to ensure that all the children are given different medicines (Syrup, pink tablet and blue tablet) till July 18. The Block Education Officers, CDPO and Anganwadi workers would help in the programme.
The minister said that the Rashtriya Kishore Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) is being operated on a large scale in the state. Under the scheme the Anganwadi centres, schools and colleges would be linked and the children between 10 to 19 years of age would be given free consultancy and treatment about nutrition, reproductive health, mental health, violence, non communicable diseases and addiction.
He said that at present this programme is being operated in Haridwar, Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri, Tehri and Nainital districts and from this year the districts of Almora, Rudraprayag and Bageshwar would also be added in this. The minister informed that so far 3,81,766 adolescents have been given counselling under the scheme which includes 2,02,290 girls and 1,79,476 boys. Rawat said that the officers of the department have been asked to train ‘peer educators’ so that the adolescents are given better information and counselling. Similarly the officers have been directed to set up T 3 camps in the schools for blood tests of adolescents so that diseases like anaemia are detected and treated.
