The State coordinator of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jot Singh Bisht said that conditions of the government hospitals are so bad across Uttarakhand that even the director-general (DG) of health, Dr Shailja Bhatt chose a big private hospital for treatment instead of a government hospital after she met an accident on Saturday. He said that primary health centres, community health centres and even district hospitals are functioning as referral centres in the mountainous areas due to the lack of proper hospitals there. He said it has become a common practice for doctors there to refer people to hospitals in Dehradun and Haldwani due to a lack of adequate facilities even to facilitate a woman’s delivery.
“Many people also have to face difficulties in their treatment in government hospitals in cities too but the government has continued to claim that healthcare is improving across the State. When the Health DG goes to a reputed private hospital in the city for treatment after she met with an accident on Saturday, it raises the question of whether she trusts the government hospitals,” said Bisht. He said that despite being an integral part of the healthcare system in the State, she did not choose to go to a government hospital in the provisional capital of the State, Dehradun.
He further stated that the Health minister misleads the people about the health services of the State but the reality is that things are worse in government hospitals and the government should admit it and work hard to make it better.
