The Election Commission has completed hearing on more than 15 lakh notices issued to the voters under the ongoing process of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Uttarakhand. The commission had issued notices to more than 24 lakh voters under the process of SIR in the State.
This information was provided by the additional chief electoral officer (ACEO) Vijay Kumar Jogdande during a meeting representatives of recognized political parties here on Saturday. The meeting was held on the directive of chief electoral officer (CEO) Uttarakhand BVRC Purushottam.
Jogdande said that out of the total 71 lakh voters included in the draft electoral roll, notices were issued to 24 lakh voters. The notices were issued to the voters who either remained unmapped or had some discrepancies. He said that out of these 24 lakh notices, the process of hearings on 15 lakh notices is complete and action on the remaining is underway.
Jogdande informed the representatives of the political parties that the SIR process is being conducted completely as per the rules. He told the political parties that to make the process more transparent, nine senior officers of administration have been additionally deployed as special observers. These officers will oversee the process of processing of claims and objections related to the voter list in the respective assembly constituencies, including the distribution, service and hearing of notices. These special obersers have been appointed in Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts where maximum number of objections have been received by the commission.
The meeting was attended by assistant chief electoral officer Mastu Das, Anil Goyal and Rajkumar Purohit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Manoj Rawat and Maulana Suleman Ansari from the Congress party, Satyapal, Satendra, Jaspal and Satyendra Chopra from BSP, Shyam Babu Pandya from Aam Aadmi Party and Anant Akash from CPI (M).
