The Vigilance court has admitted the application of RTI activist and advocate Vikesh Negi in the case of alleged disproportionate assets of Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’. Negi said that he had filed a petition in the court under section 156 (3) seeking action against ‘Gama’ for disproportionate assets allegedly amassed by abusing his position as mayor.
The court has set the date of May 2 for the hearing of the matter to decide whether to pursue a case against the mayor in the matter, added Negi. He said that he had initially given a complaint letter directly to Vigilance seeking probe into the matter but no action was taken by them after which, he decided to approach the court. He claimed that ‘Gama’ has bought 11 properties worth Rs 5.32 crore in the past five years after being elected as a mayor and its current market value is over Rs 20 crore. He said that the mayor has also allegedly misused his position to get three leases of lands- two for 99 years each and one for 29 years, from Mahant Devendra Dass in prominent locations of the city in the name of his son.
According to Negi, the leases of these lands will automatically extend in the future which clearly depicts the sheer misuse of the post of a public servant and the whole matter falls under corruption. The court has admitted the application in the matter and hopefully appropriate action would be taken against all charges, added Negi. After the matter of alleged disproportionate assets of the mayor came to light last month, he refuted all claims stating he has no unaccountable properties. Congress has also demanded a CBI inquiry against him in the case
