After a brief rainy spell provided relief from the heat in the recent past, the temperatures have started rising once again. The State meteorological centre has issued a warning regarding the possibility of heat wave conditions occurring at isolated places in the districts of Garhwal region on Friday. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the districts of the State today. Meanwhile, people in the provisional State capital Dehradun experienced weather woes on Thursday with the maximum temperature rising five degrees above normal to reach 41.1 degrees Celsius. On Friday, Dehradun is forecast to experience mainly clear skies with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be about 41 degrees Celsius and 22 degrees Celsius respectively.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Thursday were 41.1 degrees Celsius and 20.7 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 39.2 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 29.2 degrees Celsius and 15.1 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 29 degrees Celsius and 18.8 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri.

Spells of rainy weather during the previous month had provided considerable relief from the heat with the maximum temperatures in Dehradun hovering in the mid thirties whereas temperatures in the mountains had also become considerably cooler with tourists from neighbouring states also flocking to hill stations for relief from the heat. However, the meteorological centre had earlier forecast that temperatures are likely to rise noticeably in the current period till about June 10. Though the monsoon arrived in Kerala on May 29, three days before its usual date, Uttarakhand may have to wait about a fortnight before the monsoon arrives in the State. According to the State meteorological centre director Bikram Singh, though the monsoon normally arrives in Uttarakhand on June 20, whether it arrives a few days early or late will be known in the coming days.
