Heavy landslide blocks route for Adi Kailash pilgrims

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Pithoragarh

A massive landslide occurred near Baldhar on the Adi Kailash Yatra route in the Dharchula region of Pithoragarh on Tuesday morning and blocked the road completely with several vehicles remaining stranded.

However, the BRO’s 65 Road Construction Company, operating primarily under the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF), had anticipated the impending danger and then stopped the movement of vehicles. “As a result, no casualties have been reported,” said a senior district administration officer, adding that two JCB machines of BRO have been working to remove the boulders and debris from the stretch.  The officials expressed the hope that the road would reopen by Tuesday evening. At the same time, they urged the Adi Kailash pilgrims to stay put where they are for the time being.

Notably, the journey on this route is getting repeatedly disrupted this monsoon due to falling debris and boulders. The pilgrims have therefore been advised to collect information regarding the situation from the local administration and BRO before resuming the journey.
