Heavy police force deployed to maintain law & order after woman’s death in crossfire

The senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Udham Singh Nagar, Manjunath TC deployed a heavy police force in Kunda area of Kashipur on Thursday morning after angry villagers blocked the national highway demanding action against UP police late on Wednesday night. Anticipating protests on Thursday, the SSP briefed the police force including Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), Quick Response Team (QRT), Riot Control Team, fire services, regular police and deployed them to ensure that peace and order are maintained in the area.
Gurpreet Kaur, wife of senior deputy block Pramukh of Jaspur was allegedly killed in an incident of cross-firing between Moradabad police and some persons in Kunda area on Wednesday evening. The SSP Manjunath informed that on the basis of the deceased’s husband, the police have registered an FIR against UP police personnel under relevant sections. The officials informed that the UP police had arrived at Kunda to nab a criminal with a bounty of Rs 50,000 without informing the local police.The Moradabad police raided Gurtaj Singh Bhullar’s farm house at Bharatpur village in Kunda on Wednesday evening as they had the information that a mining mafia criminal Jafar had taken shelter there who is also wanted in two other cases. Though the police conducted the raid in plain clothes, villagers soon gathered and firing started from both sides when a bullet allegedly hit Bhullar’s wife. She was taken to the nearby hospital but the doctors declared her dead.
According to the statement of Moradabad DIG Shalabh Mathur, three of their police personnel were shot and two got injured who are currently getting treatment in the hospital. He said that the Moradabad police have been looking for wanted criminal Jafar and got the information that he sneaked to Bharatpur in Kunda area from Thakurdwara in Moradabad. Jafar and his accomplices fired at the police, alleged DIG Mathur. The US Nagar police stated that the legal proceedings are currently being followed in the matter.
