Heavy rains caused damage in some parts of Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts on Tuesday evening. According to official sources, heavy rain on the Binsar mountain led to debris reaching the Ghat bazaar downhill where several shops and homes were reported to be buried in the debris.
Though no loss of human life was reported, the Chamoli police raised an alert about water level rising in the Alaknanda river late in the evening, asking people residing in riverside areas to stay alert. Chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat talked to the Chamoli district magistrate on the phone and directed her to take all necessary relief measures. In Rudraprayag district heavy rain was reported near Tilwada. Though debris blocked the motor road, damaged crops and some constructions, no loss of life was reported in the area.
