Heavy rains wreak disaster in Tehri villages

At least 17 cattle died, five homes were damaged and agricultural land was also damaged following heavy rain in more than half a dozen villages of Ghansali Tehsil in Tehri district following heavy rain on the intervening night of August 20 and 21. According to officials, the damage was caused
New Tehri: Once again, disaster has wreaked havoc in Ranidang, Jogiyan, Gawana, Malla, Kailbagi, Devlang, Chakragaon and other villages of the Ghuttu area of Bhilangana block. The devastation did not result in the loss of any human life. However, there was considerable damage to agriculture and many houses along with animal loss. During this incident that happened after 12 AM on Wednesday, debris started filling a house in Chandla village. The persons in the home somehow escaped and saved their lives. Electricity and water supply along with roads and irrigation canals have also been damaged in many villages of Ghuttu area due to the disaster. The administration has shifted the affected families to a safe place and started relief and rescue work.
Heavy rains in Ghuttu area late on Tuesday night caused considerable damage in the villages of the area. A number of homes were damaged in about half a dozen villages there. More than a dozen cattle died after being buried in debris. Vishalmani, a resident of Malethi Tok in Chandla village, his wife Durga Devi and son Jagdamba saved their lives by running away at 1:30 AM. A number of homes in Chandla and nearby villages have also been damaged. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the administration started relief and rescue operations. District disaster management officer Brijesh Bhatt informed that 10 members of two families have been affected due to heavy rains in Ghutthu area of Ghansali Tehsil. They have been shifted to Navjeevan Ashram for safety. Along with this, more than a dozen cattled died and five cowsheds were damaged, he added.
