Heavy snowfall expected in Uttarakhand’s mountains today

The State Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for Thursday regarding the possibility of heavy snowfall and heavy rainfall at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts. Besides this, light rainfall and snowfall are also likely to occur at places with heights of 2,500 metres and above in the State.
The snowfall may result in blocking roads and highways, especially in places situated at a height of about 2,500 metres. The thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/ hail is also likely to occur at isolated places in various districts. The cold wave conditions are likely to occur in a few places across the State. Besides this, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 20 degrees Celsius and eight degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Wednesday were 20.4 degrees Celsius and 7.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 22.8 degrees Celsius and 7.0 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 12.4 degrees Celsius and 1.3 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 1.9 degree Celsius and 3.3 degree Celsius in Tehri respectively. Besides this, Chakrata in Dehradun district also experienced the first snowfall of the winter season on Wednesday.
