HelpAge India released its national report ‘Women and Ageing: Invisible or Empowered’ on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Thursday. The report released at an event in the Kedarnath valley revealed that there has been a 16 per cent rise in abuse of older women.

Speaking on the occasion, Kedarnath MLA Shaila Rani Rawat spoke about the various schemes run by the state government for the elderly. She also urged HelpAge India to work towards the solution of the problems faced by the elderly.

The organisation’s project manager Praveen Rai informed the visitors about the work done by the organisation. He said that the organisation has been working in the region since the 2013 Kedarnath disaster. It has organised various welfare programmes in the remote areas of the State, he claimed.
