Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara and the Lokpal temple area are covered in about eight to 10 feet snow. This was ascertained by an army team which checked the area with the shrines slated to reopen for devotees on May 20. Hemkund Sahib management trust chairman Narendrajit Singh Bindra said that the army undertakes the task of clearning snow from the path to the shrine every year before its reopening.
A team from the army inspected the area and ascertained that there is about 10 feet snow at Atalkoti glacier and eight to 12 feet snow in the Hemkund Sahib and Lokpal temple area. The glacial lake is completely covered in snow.
The army will start the task of clearing the snow from the path from April 20. The chief manager of the Govindghat Gurudwara also reached Ghangharia to inspect the conditions there. The Sevadars of the trust will depart on April 15 for Ghangharia for preparations of the pilgrimage so that the arrangements can be completed on time, said Bindra.
