The pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib is expected to resume on Saturday as weather conditions appeared to improve on Friday, said the Chamoli superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal. He told The Pioneer that the pilgrimage was halted on Thursday and Friday for the safety of pilgrims due to snow lying on the Yatra route and alert of heavy rains. He said that the police also cautioned pilgrims to stop at safe places in view of an alert of heavy rains on Friday. He said that though it rained in the afternoon on Friday, the weather condition was better than in the past two days. He said that the police also removed some snow from the bridle path from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib on Friday to make travelling easy for pilgrims. “The weather conditions appeared better on Friday but we will take the final decision on the resumption of the pilgrimage after observing the weather from Friday night to Saturday morning. We appeal to all devotees to plan their visit to Hemkund Sahib considering weather conditions,” added the SP. The officials also said that several personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed on various routes in Hemkund for the smooth and safe journey of all the pilgrims and to ensure they receive necessary help as per the need.
