The pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib is now in its final stages, with the portals set to close for the winter season on October 10. Importantly, the number of pilgrims at shrine this year has shattered all previous records.
The doors of Hemkund Sahib were opened to devotees on May 23 this year. Since the day of opening, the pilgrims started streaming in.
The manager of the high-altitude revered Gurdwara, Sewa Singh stated that this year, over 355,000 pilgrims have arrived, shattering all previous records. “With the present pilgrimage session approaching its end, we have already begun preparations for next year’s pilgrimage,” he added.
He further explained that since the Hemkund Yatra route remains covered in snow during the opening of the doors, horses and mules could not move. “Therefore, preparations for the next year begin even before the yatra formally concludes,” he said.
