In latest Uttarakhand news, the portals of the revered shrine Hemkund Sahib would be closed from October 11 for the winter break. Notably, the portals were opened for the pilgrims on May 20 and braving incessant rain and snowfall in the initial stage of the pilgrimage, about 2, 28, 000 pilgrims have visited the shrine till date. The pilgrim footfalls drastically came down in July and August due to the rain. After the rain has abated, the pilgrims have started arriving once again along the route from Govindghat to Ghangaria.
The president of the Gurudwara Hemkund Sahib Narendrajeet Singh Bindra informed that the shrine’s portals would be shut down on October 11 for the winter break and added that taking note of the spike in the number of pilgrims headed to this shrine, a new Gurudwara/dharamsala is being constructed in Rudraprayag.
