The portals of Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara in Chamoli district will be reopened for the public on the morning of May 22. The Hemkund Sahib management trust announced the date of reopening on Friday. In the past the portals of Hemkund Sahib used to be opened generally on May 25 for the devotees.
Informing about the date of reopening of the Gurudwara, Hemkund Sahib management trust vice chairman Narendrajeet Singh Bindra said that the army and volunteers will begin the task of clearing snow from the three-kilometre long bridle path to the Gurudwara and Lokpal shrine from April 10. He further said that there is about eight to 10 feet snow at Hemkund. The snow has melted from the 13 kilometre bridle path from Govindghat Gurudwara to Ghangharia but there is still considerable snow covering the last three kilometre stretch of the path to the Hemkund Gurudwara.
