Higher Education department to appoint 108 assistant professors

The Higher Education department will soon appoint 108 assistant professors of different subjects in the government colleges of the State. The Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UkPSC) has handed over the list 108 assistant professors to the department which will now appoint them in the remote and hard to access colleges. The department will soon appoint 22 assistant professors in political science, 26 in chemistry, 29 in Hindi, 16 in zoology and 15 in geography.
The Higher Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat has directed the department to expedite the process of appointment of the newly selected assistant professors. He said the State government is committed to the improvement of the higher education sector in the State. Rawat said that apart from improving infrastructure facilities, efforts are being made to solve the problem of shortage of faculty members in the colleges of the State. He said that the appointment of new assistant professors will not only help in solving the problem of shortage of faculty in the hard to access colleges but will help in improving educational activities. He added that appointment of teachers will prevent the migration of students from rural areas for higher education. The minister claimed that soon 100 per cent posts of assistant professors in the State will be filled. He informed that the State government had sent a recruitment requisition of 455 assistant professors to UkPSC out of which it has so far provided 248 assistant professors and the process of recruitment of remaining 207 assistant professors is currently underway.
