In view of the increasing demand from various quarters, the Higher Education department of Uttarakhand has started the process to open three new government colleges in the state. These colleges are proposed at Balawala in Dehradun, Srinagar in Pauri and Kanalichina in Pithoragarh district. The Haldwani based Higher Education directorate has asked for a report from the district administrations of Dehradun, Pauri and Pithoragarh in this regard.
The deputy director, Higher Education, R S Bhakuni said that the proposed place where the new colleges would be opened should have sufficient number of schools in its vicinity. This would ensure admissions in the required numbers in the new colleges. He said that a report from the DMs has been sought for these colleges and further action would be done after the arrival of the report.
It is pertinent to mention here that there are 119 government colleges in the state and in them a total of 1,07,384 students are enrolled. There are 78 such colleges in the state which have their own buildings while the construction works are underway in the buildings of 27 colleges.
