Saturday, 11 February 2023 | PNS | JOSHIMATH/DEHRADUN
Light rain was reported in various parts of the State while some parts in the higher reaches witnessed snowfall on Friday. Various high altitude regions in Chamoli district received snowfall which resulted in a drop in the temperature in the lower areas. The State meteorological centre has forecast light rain and snowfall in parts of seven districts in the State on Saturday.
In Chamoli district, snowfall was witnessed in Badrinath, valley of flowers, Auli, Gaurson and Niti valley along with Hemkund on Friday. The places in lower altitudes witness rain during the day. As the snowsports destination Auli witnessed light snowfall, observers pointed out that the snowfall in Auli is much needed as adequate snow will decide the fate of the national level skiing championship slated to be held here later this month. In absence of adequate snowfall, the organisers may have to drop the plan to hold the championship scheduled to start on February 23.
Meanwhile, the State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/snowfall is likely to occur at a few places Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts and at isolated places in the mountainous parts of Dehradun and Tehri districts on Saturday. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness partly cloudy skies with thunder cloud development likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 26 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Saturday.
