HIHT observes Swami Rama’s 26th Mahasamadhi Diwas

The 26th Mahasamadhi Diwas of Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT) founder Swami Rama was observed at the Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) on Saturday. The Union minister of State for Defence and Tourism, Ajay Bhatt was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Bhatt said that Swami Rama had founded the Himalayan Institute in 1989 guided by the principles of love and service. He said that this university is one of the few institutions which produces doctors, nurses, engineers and management professionals under one roof. He exhorted the students to share their thoughts and contribute in the progress of society and nation.
In his address, the university vice chancellor Vijay Dhasmana spoke on the history of HIHT while also informing about the future plans of the trust. The trust is progressing on the path of serving the people according to the aims of Swami Rama, he said.
Various awards were also presented to the staff members of SRHU for their performance on the occasion. The youths trained by the university in operation of home stays were also presented certificates at the event. Dhasmana said that 100 youths from all districts of the state had been trained by the university in the first phase. The trust aims to provide training to about 1,000 youths, he added.
The Vinoba Sewa Ashram was presented the Swami Rama Manavta Puraskar on the occasion. Since 2003, the HIHT has been presenting this award to an organisation or individual for commendable work in economy, environment, science, social and spiritual spheres. Dhasmana said that Vinoba Sewa Ashram which has been dedicated to social service for about 40 years in Shahjahanpur area of Uttar Pradesh was chosen for the award this year. The award consists of Rs five lakh, a citation letter and a gold medal.
