After the Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, the State Government and Uttaranchal Punjabi Mahasabha had last year felicitated senior citizens who were born in present day Pakistan before partition.
Some of the senior citizens who could not be honoured due to various reasons on that occasion were felicitated by the Haldwani Punjabi Jankalyan Samiti here on Saturday. A total of 96 senior citizens were felicitated on the occasion. The programme coordinator Pradeep Kakkad informed that Hindus including Sindhis and Sikh community members who suffered the repercussions of the partition of India and migrated to India after the partition in 1947, lived a life full of struggle and are now pillars of society.
Members of these communities who were born in undivided India’s region which is current day Pakistan were felicitated in the programme. Haldwani mayor Jogendra Rautela, BJP district president Pratap Bisht and other invited guests were also present on the occasion.
