Historic Jhanda Mela to commence from March 22

The historic Jhanda Mela of Dehradun would commence on March 22 this year. On Saturday the organising committee of the historic fair held a meeting with the officers of the police and administration. In the meeting discussions on successful organisation of the fair were held.
It was agreed that both the Mela committee and the administration would work in coordination with one another. The manager of the Mela committee K C Juyal informed all the necessary preparations that have been made for the smooth organisation of the various phases of the Fair. He said that issues like traffic management, parking of vehicles of ‘Sangat’ devotees, arrangement of CCTV cameras, arrangement of police station at the Mela premises, running of Mela Hospital, arrangement of ambulances and others were discussed in the meeting. The city magistrate of Dehradun Kusum Chauhan, Superintendent of Police (SP) Traffic, Akshay Pratap Konde, S P City Sarita Dobhal, CO City Juhi Manral and others attended the meeting.
Mahant Devendra Das is supervising the preparations for the raising of Shri Jhande Ji (the flag pole) and the Fair.
It is worth mentioning that the Jhanda fair is organised at the Darbar Sahib to commemorate the birthday of Shri Guru Ram Rai. Born in 1646 on the fifth day (panchami) after the festival of Holi at Kiratpur, District Hoshiarpur, and Punjab, Guru Ram Rai founded the Udasin sect.
This year, Baljinder Singh Saini of Delhi has been blessed with the fortune of putting on the ‘Darshani Gilaaf (Covering) on the mast of the holy flag.
