Hold interactions in localities to improve traffic: DGP

The director general of police Ashok Kumar has directed the Dehradun senior superintendent of police that interactions should be held at the locality level for improving the traffic situation. Along with the local residents, the public representatives should also be involved in these interactions. He further directed that a separate meeting should be held with wedding point operators and that they should be directed to increase parking facilities in their wedding points. The DGP issued these and other directions while chairing a meeting to review the traffic system in view of the festive season.
Kumar directed that during VIP duty, a special traffic plan should be prepared for resumption of traffic on routes which are declared zero zone. Police personnel should remain on duty till the traffic returns to normal. Officials were directed to revisit duty points after widening of highways and roads, and to depute personnel on duty at new traffic pressure points. The bottleneck points in the city should also be reviewed again. The DGP further said that Selaqui should be included in the Premnagar zone formed in view of the traffic system while the area till the Mussoorie Diversion should be included in the Rajpur Road zone. He directed that a traffic plan should be prepared till Harrawala for the Haridwar Road zone. Officials were directed to ensure that all personnel remain vigilant while on duty during Dhanteras and Diwali festivals, adding that strict action should be taken in case of negligence on duty. He further directed that improvements should be made in the standard operating procedure of the cranes being operated on public private partnership mode. An announcement should be made when any vehicle is being towed by a crane and this should be done by the police personnel deputed with the crane. All the cranes should mandatorily be connected with GPS, he stressed. The DGP also directed that strict action should be taken against those indulging in over speeding, stunt biking and drunk driving. It was stated in the meeting that the police station/post in-charge concerned will be responsible for proper traffic management in his/her area. Kumar directed the SSP to fix area-wise responsibility in case of traffic disruption. The officials were also directed to remove temporary encroachments and ensure necessary action in such cases as per the rules. The help of NCC cadets and traffic volunteers should also be taken in managing the traffic while necessary steps should also be taken to include PRD jawans in traffic duty. The DGP said that the general public should be informed on time about the traffic plan for Diwali. It should also be widely publicised through the media and social media.
