Holi ups demand for themed clothing & accessories in Doon

The impact of social media, style and other factors has led to a growing demand for new Holi-themed clothing and accessories among city residents. In various major markets, an assortment of Holi-themed outfits, gaudy wigs and masks has been observed in anticipation of the upcoming celebration. Notably, with only a few days remaining for Holi on March 14, the markets have are decked up in a range of accessories and items essential for the festivities. Many shopkeepers in these markets have noted a shift in consumer preferences, with people increasingly opting for new Holi-themed apparel instead of older garments.
This year, t-shirts featuring Radha Krishna designs, cartoon motifs and colourful wigs are particularly popular and attracting many customers in Dehradun.
Local shopkeeper Mahindra Rastogi said that each year he sets up an additional stall alongside his shop. This stall features Holi items, including colours, t-shirts, wigs, colour crackers and more. He said that over time, influenced by social media, the trend has shifted from wearing old clothes to themed t-shirts. With only a few days remaining before Holi, he observed a daily increase in demand for Holi t-shirts, which he priced between Rs 100 and Rs 350.
Another shopkeeper, Jaggi said that there has been a notable rise in the demand for Holi t-shirts and particularly wigs. Young adults are especially keen on colourful wigs to stand out during the festivities. Additionally, colourful crackers are also in high demand among individuals.
Numerous shopkeepers have expressed similar concerns regarding the shift from old clothing to new among individuals.
One customer, Mohit Kanjojia said that he purchased a themed T-shirt from the market, which he found to be suitable and appealing. He also said that he acquired colourful wigs for the Holi celebration to protect his hair from the damage caused by the festival colours.
