Hotel building collapses in Sonprayag, no loss of life reported

At least 173 roads remain blocked in various parts of State
The three-storey building of a hotel at Rampur in Sonprayag area of Rudraprayag district collapsed on Tuesday morning. According to the police, the building of hotel Kedar was in a structurally weak condition for some time. Considering the safety of the public, the police got the hotel building vacated in the past due to which there was no loss of life when the building collapsed at about 8:30 AM on Tuesday. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the district, the search for the 20 people missing since the landslide at Gaurikund on August 3 continued on Tuesday. The search teams conducted operations at various locations but were unable to find any bodies. The bodies of three of the 23 persons affected in the disaster were recovered earlier by the authorities.
At the same time, according to information from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), at least 173 roads were reported to be blocked in various districts of the State on Tuesday evening. The Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway 107 was blocked by debris near Guptkashi. One national highway, three State highways and 17 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the Rudraprayag district. In Uttarkashi district the Rishikesh-Yamunotri national highway 94 was reported to be blocked by rocks at Dabarkot while the Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway 108 and the Gangotri-Gaumukh bridle path were reported to be open for movement. Two main district roads and 14 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district.
Similarly, one State highway, one main district road and 11 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in Tehri district. Electricity supply to four villages in the Munikireti area was disrupted. In the Haridwar district, one State highway and two rural motor roads were reported to be blocked while in the Pauri district seven State highways, three main district roads and 22 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked. The Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway 58 was reported to be open for traffic in the Chamoli district. While the Joshimath-Malari border road was also open, one State highway, two other district roads, one border road and 23 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the district. In the Joshimath Tehsil, an 11 KV line at Govindghat was damaged due to which power supply to eight villages has been disrupted.
One State highway, one other district road and 16 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the Dehradun district while in the Almora district three rural motor roads were reported to be blocked. Two State highways, one main district road and 11 rural motor roads were reported blocked in the Nainital district while all national highways, State highways and rural motor roads were reported to be open in the Udham Singh Nagar district. One main district road and four rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the Bageshwar district while two rural motor roads were blocked in the Champawat district. Three border roads and 14 rural motor roads were reported to be blocked in the Pithoragarh district. According to officials, efforts are underway to clear the blocked roads and restore the supply of electricity in places where it has been disrupted.
