Hridayesh cremated with full state honours

The last rites of leader of opposition and Haldwani MLA Indira Hridayesh were held at the Chitrashila Ghat in Ranibagh on Monday. She was cremated with state honours. Her sons Sumit Hridayesh, Sanjeev Sharma and Saurabh Sharma lit the funeral pyre even as a large number of locals gathered to pay their last respects to the departed leader.
Earlier, her mortal remains were kept at her residence where the chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat reached from New Delhi to pay his respects. Former chief minister and AICC general secretary Harish Rawat, a number of cabinet ministers and Congress leaders also paid their last respects to Hridayesh. Expressing grief, the chief minister said that the demise of Hridayesh had caused an irreparable loss to the state. Recalling her four decades of activity in politics, Rawat said that she was dedicated to public service till the end. Her works will be remembered for a long time to come, he said, while adding that major development works will be named after her.
Her mortal remains were also kept at Swaraj Ashram for the general public to pay their respects before cremation. Her sons planted a Banyan sapling in her memory on the occasion.
It will be recalled that Hridayesh had died of a cardiac arrest in Delhi on Sunday.
