Friday, 17 December 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

Former president of Congress party Rahul Gandhi gave the much needed momentum to the campaign of Congress party for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttarakhand. After a well attended rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 4 the pressure was on the Congress party to bring people to the rally of Rahul Gandhi. The state leadership of the party tried hard on this front and the result was evident on parade ground on Thursday. The venue of the rally was jam-packed and the crowd spilled over to the adjoining roads. The police had a tough time managing the traffic as people going into and coming out of the rally created traffic jams in different parts of the city on Thursday. Congress leaders Harish Rawat and Pritam Singh had claimed before the rally that more people would attend the rally of Rahul Gandhi.

When contacted after the end of the rally the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Pritam Singh told The Pioneer that more than 35,000 people had attended the rally. He said that in Congress’ rally the crowd was double that of Modi’s rally. Singh said that in sharp contrast to Modi’s rally people in Rahul’s rally stayed till the last and the enthusiasm was clearly very high. The CLP leader said that it clearly shows that people of Uttarakhand have made up their minds to change the government.
