Husband & wife crushed to death in car by boulder

39 roads remain blocked in various parts of State
A husband and wife were killed on the spot when a heavy boulder fell on their car near Bagauli Shiv Mandir in Chamoli district on Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, at least 39 roads remained blocked by debris and other factors in different parts of the State on Sunday evening.
The Karnprayag police reached the site on being informed about the mishap at 3:35 PM. The police called for a mechanical excavator to remove the boulder from atop the car. The car was found to be completely crushed when the boulder was removed. The two bodies were removed from the car wreck and sent to the hospital. The deceased were identified as Balbir Singh (45) of Meta Kulsari in Tharali area of Chamoli district and his wife Savitri Singh (40). The duo was going to their village from Dehradun when the mishap occurred. Singh has a government licensed fair price shop in the village. The family members of the deceased had been informed about their accidental deaths.
Meanwhile, according to information provided by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) more than three dozen roads are closed in various parts of the State. In Uttarkashi district, the Rishikesh-Yamunotri national highway 94 and Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway 108 are open for traffic. Similarly, the Vikasnagar-Badkot national highway 123 along with Janakichatti-Yamunotri bridle path and Gangotri-Gaumukh bridle path were also open on Sunday evening. In the Chamoli district, the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway 58 is open for traffic though nine rural motor roads are blocked in the district. All the national and State highways are open in the Almora district whereas four rural motor roads are blocked in Dehradun district. The Tanakpur-Champawat-Ghat national highway number 9 along with all other national highways and State highways are open for traffic in Champawat district. In Rudraprayag district the Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway 107 and Gaurikund-Kedarnath bridle path are open along with all other national highways and State highways in the district. Similarly, all national highways and State highways are open for traffic in Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts. One State highway, one other district road and eight rural motor roads are blocked to traffic in the Pauri district whereas five rural motor roads are blocked in the Tehri district. While all national highways, state highways and rural motor roads are open in Haridwar district, thre rural motor roads are blocked in Bageshwar. Further, eight rural motor roads are blocked in Pithoragarh district. Efforts are underway to reopen all the blocked roads.
